Dyband Corporation
Acquires IP Traffic Management Asset From Orchestream
OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA (April 02, 2002)-Dyband
Corporation, a new private Canadian company, today announced
its acquisition of the intellectual property and physical
assets of Dyband, a supplier of IP traffic management solutions
to service providers and enterprises worldwide. Dyband Corporation
purchased the asset from Orchestream Holdings PLC.
Tim Welch, now president and CEO of Dyband
Corporation, directed the buyout initiative with the help
of former Orchestream / Dyband management. Welch has 12 years'
management experience in the telecommunications and service
provider industries and was formerly a member of Dyband's
senior management team under Orchestream. "Dyband has
all of the makings of a real success: a large and growing
addressable market, a finished product, real demand from real
customers, and a new team with the passion to move Dyband
to the next level," said Tim Welch. A group of Ottawa-based
private investors, with deep roots in the software, telecommunications
and service provider industries, supplied the investment and
guidance for the transaction.
Former customers and partners, committed
to Dyband's technology, supported the buyout and are offering
encouragement through on-going sales orders and investment.
"Congratulations on keeping a very good product on the
market," said Kenneth Ang of Gardtal Holdings, a regional
cable Internet provider and Dyband customer.
"With this buyout and incorporation,
Dyband now has the opportunity to steer its own course,"
said Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics
Research. "And the market timing is right for any product,
such as the Dyband solution, that can reduce operating costs,
provide a rapid return on investment, and solve key problems
facing ISPs such as scaling and bandwidth issues."
Dyband's current traffic management software
is the result of a multi-million dollar research and development
effort and has been shipping since June 2001. Dyband products
are currently in use worldwide by international, national,
and regional service providers. Several systems integrators
are incorporating Dyband software into their access solutions,
and OEMs are testing the product for inclusion in their core
products.
"We are offering Dyband traffic management
software as part of every IP-based satellite datacasting solution
we sell," stated Gary Carter, vice president of sales
and business development at International Datacasting, an
Ottawa-based firm providing advanced products, systems and
services for broadband wireless infrastructure networks used
to distribute multimedia data. "In order to effectively
utilize DVB IP systems today, customers need QoS, and we have
found the Dyband product to be excellent."
Dyband's current products are applicable
to multiple narrowband and broadband access markets, but it
will focus initially on fulfilling the business and technical
needs of the wireless and satellite markets.
DYBAND'S UNIQUE VALUE
Dyband intelligent IP traffic management software enables
Internet service providers to control bandwidth consumption,
by IP address; define and manage a virtually unlimited number
of SLAs at distinct price points; and view bandwidth consumption
in real-time, while gathering comprehensive historical statistics
for later analysis.
These capabilities are extremely important
to Internet service providers who face a market characterized
by high operating costs, competitive pricing pressures, and
high levels of customer churn, all of which impact the bottom
line. With Dyband, ISPs can decrease operating costs by managing
their bandwidth more effectively, add new service revenues
by offering unlimited service levels, and deliver more consistent
and reliable service, thereby reducing customer churn. In
addition, Dyband studies with ISP customers and prospects
have shown that Dyband provides a very rapid return on investment,
important in this period of tight capital spending.
