Challenge:
For the third time in a week, one of your customers calls
in to inform you that "… your service is not the same as it
used to be". When pressed, the customer explains that download
speeds are erratic, which suggests contention for available
bandwidth. But how can a service provider assess the performance
of an individual customer when their primary monitoring tool
is one of the commonly-used products such as MRTG?

Solution:
Dyband provides unequalled visibility into the performance
of the entire managed network. It does so by providing both
real-time monitoring and historical reporting from the backbone
level down to the subscriber level. Real-time statistics can
be viewed in graphical and numerical format for the most recent
60 seconds, 60 minutes, and 24 hours (see screen capture below).
Data is available for individual and aggregate traffic flows,
with statistics for inbound, outbound, and half-duplex traffic
maintained and displayed separately.
Additionally, Dyband provides powerful search
tools which can (1) pinpoint the "Top 10" users in a variety
of performance categories over the last second, minute, or
hour, (2) locate all subscribers currently governed by the
same service level policy, and (3) perform AND/OR searches
to identify subscribers which share any of a number of other
configuration features.
For deeper visibility into network performance,
a service provider can make use of Dyband's archiving and
reporting capabilities. Dyband follows operator guidelines
to selectively archive real-time statistics in an SQL database,
from which reports can be generated on-screen (see example
below) and in HTML format. The reports can be customized to
show average and peak transfer rates, total consumption, congestion,
and aggressive usage for specified points in the managed network,
or types of points (e.g., subnets and gateways), over a given
timeframe in a given traffic direction.
This type of comprehensive, customized reporting
of performance data is invaluable for service providers, facilitating
usage-based billing, capacity planning, well-timed provisioning,
customer care, and technical support.
